Things I have learned:

- Rice vinegar smells good.
- Use less vinegar next time oh god.
- Don't fill the mold all the way, you'll never get the rice out in shape.
- Sticky rice is pretty delish, even when oversaturated w/ vinegar.
- Vinegar fumes give me headaches.

All in all, I'd call that a successful first try.

Motherfuckin' onigiri, bitches.

Oh man you guys I just had a meeting with DK in which I did not get any oh-my-god-I-am-doomed-and-so-behind-oh-god-oh-god vibes. THIS IS SO ROCKIN'. I am writing too many words (better than too few! 8D) and I need to reference more and focus but basically I AM AWESOME.

Just in the library writing out my Stay On Topic Hellen Crazy-cool Mission Statement before I forget what's meant to be in it. (It includes the phrase "Go go gadget historical ethnoarchaeology!") I might actually hang it on the wall by my desk like he suggested.

I AM IN SUCH A GOOD MOOD NOW. I was dreading not-good-enough smackdowns of doooom. :D :D :D

Now I am going to go home and eat apples in plain yoghurt and drink juice and boil rice for motherfuckin' onigiri.

PS: What are you talking about spellcheck, yoghurt has an H in it.

PPS: According to wiki, "yoghourt is an uncommon alternative [spelling]." That is amazing and I am spelling it 'yoghourt' from now on.

PPPS: Whenever I refer to Wikipedia as "wiki" it makes me think of Wickie. Because I'm a dork. XD

PPPPS: (last one I swear): Oh man, "chiisana baikingu". That is madly adorable for some reason. Baikingu!

I think I'm going to buy this with the money from the scanner-that-wasn't. It costs pretty much exactly what my mum told me my budget was, and if I order it to-day I can have it by tomorrow! Though that's not with the free shipping, and even if it was so, the Post Office operates by its own mysterious system of time-keeping, much like the Microsoft minute (man, it's practically impossible to find a non-Windows-bashing definition for that), by which "by 1pm Saturday, January 31" most likely means "before Wednesday".

But! Tablet tablet tablet! :DD

I have a meeting with my tutor at 11, and then I am taking the rest of the day off and making fuckin' onigiri, motherfucker, and maybe take Tim out on a date to see Slumdog Millionaire if he's not got too much work himself. ♥

Also, I am approaching the halfway point of my dissertation, word count-wise, at an average rate of about 2500words/week. Man, I remember back when it took me all summer to write my 4000-word Extended Essay.

(I was talking to another girl who does Archaeology a few days ago who still isn't even completely sure what she's doing her dissertation about. Which made me quite feel good about myself, in a small, egotistical sort of way. XD)

ETA:
If you have ever wondered what half a dissertation looks like, the answer is "not terribly impressive, to be honest".

HILING SAYS IT'S SPAMMIN' TIME

Because I really have nothing of interest to report, unless you'd like to know something about Mediterranean trade from the 10th to the 15th century, because I can tell you VOLUMES, up to and including how much money Tomaso Malipiero invested in pepper in 1476 (approximately 2400 ducats, in case you're interested. He only bought pepper that year, maybe he didn't have much capital).

I did, however, happen to have my camera with me to-day, so:

Things Durham would very much like you to do:

Free Gaza. Or, possibly, some mysterious individual named Gaz. This looks like it was drawn on the wall with a very large coloured pencil.

Just say no to dairy! DAIRY MEANS ORPHAN COWS.

Also scratch perverts, apparently. I don't know why; I guess the perverts have an itch they can't reach.

My new favourite toy.

I'ma go take a nap now. Nap nap nap.

Listening to "四季ノ唄" by MINMI. I need to find more of this woman's songs, because this track is really good. My computer says it's from your rotation, Beckers, got any more? XD

Meanwhile, have an art dump! :D

Meh, this sucks. I got a TON of work done on my dissertation to-day. (It's actually probably more of a normal amount of work, but I've been so procrastinatory and burnt-out these days that 1000 words is pretty awesome.) But I accidentally stayed up so long tweaking the draft chapter we have to hand in tomorrow that if I go to bed now I probably won't wake up in time to hand it in before 12. Why can't we have 5pm deadlines like CompSci? Why, for that matter, do we have to hand stuff in in paper anyway? FAILSAUCE.

Oh well, maybe I can use this enforced wakefulness to do some fun things.

To-day has been a pretty good day, though. Other achievements besides dissertation pwnage:

1. Bosoms! You know how you can make "Pages" for people/places/things on Facebook and then "become a fan" of them? I have managed to get around FB's obscenity filter and made one for boobies, so I can proclaim my love of the chesticles. You should join it if you have a facebook account. Unless you don't like boobs, that is, you weirdo. My mission now is to find pictures of boobs that don't break the "no vulgar or obscene material" rule in the TOU to upload to the page. Artistic nudes and medical diagrams etc.

2. Icons! (Of bosoms!) I browsed [info]vintage_sex for the first time in a while earlier to-day, as well, and consequently made some icons (of which the one I'm using on LJ for this post is one, aamof*), which I'm actually pretty proud of. :3

Now I'm going to make myself a 5am snack and then either write some more of my dissertation or read a book or play a game or teach myself some more Japanese grammar or do something completely different. Except not sleep.

*I think aamof (as a matter of fact) should enter common usage, like asap and im(h)o. Mainly because I just made it up (though it probably already exists somewhere) and because acronyms please me.

Might as well put it here instead of spamming twitter with 5 consecutive link-posts, right?

Maybe sort of awesome: but I will miss paper.

Awesome: Neil Gaiman wins at creepy.

Awesomer: I want this film.

Aweosmest: :O!

Hilarious: It's exercise really!

Also, here's another trailer for that silly badass film. Vikings vs Aliens ftw!

PS: Something else I meant to link: Gundam linguistics! I love it when people combing academic intelligent-type things with fandom. I want to be able to do cool stuff like this.

Alright, alright, Obama, so far you are pretty awesome. Only awesome for being a decent and law-abiding leader where others have failed to be, which by all accounts should not be remarkable, but FUCK YES.

Unrelatedly, I stole a meme from Grace to list your top 10 imaginary boyfriends and I am having a ridiculously hard time thinking of 10 fictional and/or famous people I would like to do/date/whatever. >_< I obviously do not insert myself into fictional worlds enough. I keep going through all my favourite books, and for most of them I just enjoy the characters and their social networks as they are; I don't feel the need to insert myself. That is, I often want to insert myself into the world, but not necessarily the circle of the story's characters. (Though I can think of plenty of people I hesitate to include because I can't decide whether I would prefer to be WITH them or be LIKE them.)

So all I can come up with are sexy girls from random anime.

Actually, while writing this two more people occurred to me, so WE MAY HAVE A SUCCES YET.

By the way, here is the link to my tumblr if you are interested. All the themes that come with it are sort of lame, so I'm making my own atm.

The church by our house has a new sign up. It's not as good as the Jesus loves you and there's NOTHING you can do about it! one that I unfortunately never got a photo of, but it's still pretty amusing.

I'm not sure why these signs amuse me so much, really. Churches talking about U-turns is just silly. Like a dignified elderly gentleman wearing a baseball cap or polite rap.

There's an LJ meme going around where you ask people to name an aspect of your life or some such which you then take a picture of and post. And since I remembered to take my camera to Durham this time and was going to post some pictures of the house anyway - if you happen to have a nagging curiosity about what the inside of my fridge looks like or something, now is your chance to say so.

[info]snow_vs_asphalt persuaded me to get a tumblr, because what I REALLY needed in my life was MORE BLOGS. It's sort of fun to play around with, though, even though I'm not really sure what to do with it yet. I think I might use it as a place to dump IM quotes.

ALSO, Steph is totally watching Ouran. 8D OURAN OURAN OURAN. Everyone should watch Ouran. *is proud of her padawan*
